Intermediate Luxury European-Style Leatherwork
Course Details
This five day intermediate course is for those individuals who are have either completed the beginner course or have comparable experience with other instruction. Not sure which is right for you? Send in some photos of your work and we will determine if the Intermediate course is a fit for you. The focus for this course continues with more European methods for hand stitching, edge finishing, using the fileteuse tool and basic assembly processes. We will also move beyond flat objects to 3D projects including those intermediate projects found in Leatherwork School by Ellen Valentine including the Gadget Bag, the City Bag (a larger version of the Gadget Bag), the T Bottom Tote, the Clutch, the Twist Lock Bag, or the Enchape Bag.
This course will cover the following topics (depending on project(s) selected):
-
Turned bag construction
-
Piping and Welting
-
Gusset Options
-
Gusset Assembly: Glued-Gussets and Matched Holes Methods
-
Installing Magnetic Snaps
-
Shortening and Installing Zippers
-
Installing Rivets
Possible projects can include the intermediate projects from the Leatherwork School book: Gadget Bag, the City Bag (a larger version of the Gadget Bag), the T Bottom Tote, the Clutch, the Twist Lock Bag or the Enchape Bag. Of course, you can also work on beginner projects in this class, but priority will be given to those students who have previous experience. You will be able to pick your leather from available stock or bring your own leather. If you catch on quickly and work diligently, you may be able to complete multiple projects.
While pattern making is a vital part of leatherwork, in this course, we will provide pre-made patterns so you can focus your time on construction techniques. You are encouraged to make any pattern modifications to your selected project using the digital downloadable patterns from the Leatherwork School book before you come to class. (Please email support@leatherworkschool.com to set a time to discuss your modifications in advance).
There are only 4 students per course so everyone will receive plenty of individual attention.
