Advanced Luxury European-Style Leatherwork

Course Details

This six day advanced course is for those individuals who are have either completed the intermediate course and mastered the intermediate techniques or have comparable experience with other instruction. Not sure which is right for you?  Send in some photos of your work and we will determine if the Advanced course is a fit for you.  The focus for this course continues with more European methods for hand stitching, edge finishing, using the fileteuse tool and basic assembly processes.  The primary focus of this course is the advanced projects such as the top handle and round handle bags featured in the Leatherwork School book.

This course will cover the following topics (depending on project(s) selected):

  • Round Handle Construction
  • Moulded Handle Construction
  • Thick Top Edge Assembly and Finishing
  • Operating the skiving machine
  • Tool Sharpening
  • Working with Alligator and Crocodile
Possible projects can include the advanced projects from the Leatherwork School book: Round Handle Bag, Top Handle Bag or a bag of your own design.  Of course, you can also work on non-advanced projects in this class, but priority will be given to those students who have previous experience and are looking for an advanced experience.  You will be able to pick your leather from available stock or bring your own leather.  Both the top handle and round handle bags will probably take a full weed to complete.  If there is a bit of time left in the course, you can make a sample or prototype of another bag element. You are encouraged to make any pattern modifications to your selected project using the digital downloadable patterns from the Leatherwork School book before you come to class. (Please email support@leatherworkschool.com to set a time to discuss your modifications and selected project in advance).
There are only 4 students per course so everyone will receive plenty of individual attention.
